Train from Basel Airport to city centre

There aren’t direct trains from Basel Airport since it hasn’t a main train station. There are future plans de built a railway station in the airport premises.

To take any of the available trains of either Switzerland, France or German railways, you need to transfer to Saint-Louis SNCF Station (France) or Basel Bahnhof SBB (Switzerland).

They are located within 5 minutes from the main terminal.

By Tram

If you wish to transfer to Badischer Bahnhof (German Railway Station) from Basel Airport, you can do it by tram, since it stops outside the terminal building.

In order to get to transfer to Badischer Bahnhof, you need to board the Tram line number 2 at Bahnhof SBB, located at just 5 minutes from the main terminal, to Badischer Bahnhof, which is located at Basel city.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 05:18 am to 01:41 am every 4 minutes, Saturday from 5:23 am to 1:41 am every 15 minutes, and Sunday and public holidays, from 5:23 am to 01:41 am every 15 minutes. 

Total trip time is of 33 minutes.

Where can I buy my ticket?

You can purchase it at SBB Swiss Railways Counter at Basel Airport, in the ticket booths of either Bahnhof SBB or Badischer Bahnhof station. 


By Bus

BVB bus line 50 (Basel Airport (Swiss sector) – Bahnhof SBB / Basel Bahnhof SBB)

By this bus line, you can transfer between Basel Airport from the Swiss sector to Bahnhof SBB station or to Basel downtown (Basel Bahnhof SBB) within 23 minutes. 

Opening hours: From 4:53 am to 0:35 am, every 10 minutes.

Board it outside the airport terminal at the Swiss sector (level 2).

Adult single ticket fare is of 3.10 CHF, since is 2 zones.

You can purchase your ticket at BVB booths in the Airport Terminal or at Basel Bahnhof SBB station. 

Distribus bus line 11 (Basel Airport (French sector) – Saint-Louis SNCF Station)

By taking this bus line, you’ll be able to directly transfer between Basel Airport from the French sector to the nearest SNCF station, within 20 minutes. 

Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 5.35 am to 23.35 am, every 15 minutes, Saturday from 6:35 am to 23:35 am, every 30 minutes, and Sundays and public holidays from 6:05 am to 22:35 pm, every 30 minutes.

FlixBus (Basel Airport – Freiburg Central Station)

By taking this bus line you’ll be able to transfer to Basel Airport to Freiburg Central Station within 1 hour. 

Opening hours: From 07:20 am to 20:30 pm, every hour approximate.
